About the ECDD Disability Information Service Center (DISC)
The ECDD operates a public Disability Information Service Center (DISC) that provides information on disability and development issues in Ethiopia, on services and programs available to or involving persons with disabilities and their families, and on practical expertise on how to practice Inclusive Development.
The ECDD information collection specializes on disability topics and persons with disabilities in Ethiopia, including census and survey data, research studies, university degree theses, publications of UN organizations, government agencies and NGOs, information about government, NGO and DPO policies, programs and activities in the country, as well as documentation from regional and international organizations.
The ECDD maintains in its office in Addis Ababa a collection of print and Braille copies of many disability-related and other documents as well as CDs for ease of use by the general public as well as persons with disabilities, their families, students, researchers, government officials, parliamentarians, development and donor agencies. DISC materials are for use in the ECDD office only. Photocopy services are available. The ECDD office is open weekdays, 8:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 17:00.
The ECDD also maintains a searchable DISC electronic database of documents on disability subjects, as well as of organizations and services addressing disability and persons with disabilities in Ethiopia. The DISC electronic database is a joint project with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MOLSA) and UNICEF Ethiopia. ECDD plans to distribute annually to government offices, NGOs, DPOs and to university libraries a CD Rom of its DISC database.
